Infobox photo

I think this photo of Marathis celebrating Gudi Padwa from 2021 would make a good addition to the infobox. It's a widely-celebrated festival amongst contemporary Marathis and a colorful representation of their cultural identity. KevindeAmsterdam (talk) 16:56, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

Contemporary yes but how representative is it? I don't see any evidence in the photgraph of the riders celebrating Gudi padwa.I can see the bhagwa flag but that is used by Marathi as well other Hindu people for other occasions too.Thanks. Jonathansammy (talk) 20:54, 5 May 2025 (UTC)

Also, to my knowledge the only major festival which is publicly celebrated by marathi Hindu people is Ganeshotsav.Gokul ashtami, Navratri and Dasara may have some elements of public celebrations but I have never heard of parades, on foot or on motorcycle, on Gudi padwa.If this is a brand new tradition then you will have to back the image with reliable sources. Maratha or Marathi

This uses Marathi, but there is also Maratha (caste) and Maratha clan. Which is correct? ← Metallurgist (talk) 09:16, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

@Metallurgist: This article (Marathi people) is about the ethnolinguistic group native to the state of Maharashtra. Maratha (caste) is about the caste that is part of the larger "Marathi people", the latter including other castes. While Maratha clan system is about the various sub-castes / communities / social groups forming the Maratha (caste). - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:40, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

@Fylindfotberserk Ok it looks like when it refers to the people it should be -i, and when its the other uses, -a? I had an edit request for changing that awhile ago and found a few others I thought were supposed to be changed, but it looks like Maratha people can sometimes be used for Marathi people? ← Metallurgist (talk) 19:50, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

@Metallurgist: Yeah in colloquial speech, Maratha and Marathi are sometimes used interchangeably, but here 'Maratha' strictly refers to the collection of mid / agricultural castes within the "Marathi (people)" ethnolinguistic group. The latter includes upper castes like various Marathi-speaking Brahmins, Kayatshas, etc as well as various lower castes whihc are outside the scope of Maratha (caste) article. In simple terms, Marathi people is the ethnolinguistic/geographical term (comparable to say Punjabis), while Maratha (caste) is a sub-group/caste within (comparable to Jat Sikhs in the case of Punjabis). - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 20:08, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

A small change
