Classification of characters seems strange
[edit]It seems a bit strange to me how the characters are ordered now ("main characters," "supporting characters," "other antagonists," etc.) compared to how this article was before in separating protagonists, antagonists, and other recurring characters.
How are we defining what a "main" character is? How are Wario, Waluigi, Daisy, and Donkey Kong more "main" characters to the franchise than Rosalina or Bowser Jr. are? Rosalina has appeared in numerous mainline titles as a playable character, while Bowser Jr. is the series' second main antagonist after Bowser. Meanwhile, Daisy has appeared in one mainline title since her debut in Super Mario Land in 1989, while Wario, Waluigi, and Donkey Kong are almost exclusively spinoff-only characters at this point. I'd even argue that Toadette, who is a frequent playable option in the modern 2D Mario platformers, is deserving of a spot in the "main characters" section, though if she doesn't have her own article yet, then I can understand the hesitation.
If we're going to move to this new classification system, I do at least feel strongly that Rosalina and Bowser Jr. should be moved into the "main characters" section, though I would still advise reverting into the protagonist/antagonist split that there was before. ~2026-18084-25 (talk) 12:57, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
- Some more evidence on moving Rosalina, Bowser Jr., and Toadette to the "main characters" section, in that they are classified as such by Super Mario Wiki, the leading authority on Super Mario Bros. information online: https://www.mariowiki.com/MarioWiki:Anniversary/2025 (see "Awards 2025 Complete Results" link) ~2026-18260-70 (talk) 07:56, 24 March 2026 (UTC)

- Mario Wiki, the leading online information resource for the Super Mario Bros. series, is not a reliable source?
- Fine then, how about the official Mario Characters page straight from the Nintendo website, in which Rosalina and Bowser Jr. are characters with featured write-ups? https://mario.nintendo.com/characters/ ~2026-21125-43 (talk) 20:54, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- MarioWiki is not a reliable source for the same reason that Wikipedia itself is not a reliable source: as wikis, they are user-generated, and there is no guarantee that the information found within at any given time is correct, as both sites can be edited by anyone. Both Wikipedia and MarioWiki have general disclaimers stating that they make "no guarantee of validity". (In fact, the MarioWiki disclaimer seems to be directly based off of Wikipedia's general disclaimer.) SuperPianoMan9167 (talk) 22:06, 5 April 2026 (UTC)

Hi... Please, we want a regular "Kamek" page on this website.
[edit]Hi... Good Friday night, everyone... Please, we want a regular "Kamek" page on this site. Do you know any reasons why we might want this?
Firstly, it's because this list of Mario franchise characters is getting long, with over 140,000 bytes; secondly, it's because Kamek has made non-playable appearances in several platform games and playable appearances in several Mario Kart, Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis games; thirdly, it's because Kamek had memorable scenes in the films The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie; and fourthly, it's because there are many fans of Kamek and certain Magikoopas who create fan art and videos paying homage to them!
So, what do you think about this? Do you agree with me in this comment?
So, thank you very much, have a good night and I hope you understand what happened and the reasons behind this matter, okay? Bye, bye... Sarah Vilela Anjos Pereira (talk) 23:17, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
- The problem is a lack of reliable, secondary sources discussing him. There's no reception to build the article around, which is what's necessary before you spin something out.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 23:33, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
- Seriously? And don't tell me it's still difficult to find secondary reference links for that future page, which will talk about Kamek... Sarah Vilela Anjos Pereira (talk) 19:11, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

Unilateral redirect and page split without consensus
[edit]I notice that the entire contents of this list (over 47k bytes) were blanked and redirected to the main franchise article. While the edit summary mentions splitting off enemies and condensing major characters, this massive change and blanking of the list was done without a merge discussion or community consensus. Per WP:BRD, once the bold edit was reverted, a discussion should have been opened rather than re-reverting to force the redirect. (Pinging @Kung Fu Man to weigh in here.) - With the exception of the Mario franchise enemies, all the individual characters at that point with the exception of Kamek had been split off into their own articles, and the full character list itself failed WP:LISTN as it was pulling in two very different directions (and the enemies themselves have multiple sources). The remaining character index was merged into the franchise list, because when distilled it fit comfortable into there and did not require a WP:SPLIT.
- The editor that reverted it did not give a reason for objection, simply "restored the page" with only five edits roughly under the belt, which was fair to assume a kneejerk reaction. BRD encourages discussion, but one cannot discuss something that isn't there. There is a long history on wikipedia of new users trying to restore pages without fully understanding the why or simply because they feel it should be. WP:IGNOREALLRULES can apply cleanly especially in a complete overhaul in this case.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 12:04, 13 July 2026 (UTC)
