Furniture

[edit]

I read in an article that antique dealers in New York look for finds in the trash people put out when they move. Because the appartments are so small you can't keep anything som they often find designer stuff from the 1950s and 1960s. // Liftarn

Nice.
So, what are the citations needed, again? 2600:8803:7F09:100:C9C8:9576:BC19:8747 (talk) 00:45, 19 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

New section to be added

Academic Publications

[edit]
  • Lars Eighner included a chapter on dumpster diving in his "Travels with Lisbeth". The chapter earlier appeared in New England Journal of Public Policy (Volume 8 Issue 1 Special Issue on Homelessness: New England and Beyond, 1992-03-23)

No clue how to get this thing in, keep getting errors: Recommended Citation Eighner, Lars (1992) "On Dumpster Diving," New England Journal of Public Policy: Vol. 8: Iss. 1, Article 7. Available at: http://scholarworks.umb.edu/nejpp/vol8/iss1/7/

cannot add this as there's a citation error somewhere below it in the existing text!

Dumpster

The main purpose of a dumpster is to store garbage until it is emptied by a garbage truck and disposed of. Dumpsters can be used for all kinds of waste, or for recycling purposes. Most dumpsters are emptied weekly by a hired garbage removal service. The main purpose of a dumpster is to store garbage until it is emptied by a garbage truck and disposed of. Information diving and garbology

[edit]

There's not really a standardized term for searching for information by going through people's trash, but the article at information diving overlaps with garbology, and the term "information diving" seems to be uncommon, so I've proposed merging "information diving" into "garbology": Talk:Garbology#Merge proposal.

I also recently added a bunch of citations to the garbology article, including under Garbology#Investigative uses, that may be useful to integrate into this dumpster diving article. Dreamyshade (talk) 17:28, 1 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
