My Name is Gitta is a 2026 documentary film directed by Beatrix Ryle. The film follows Holocaust survivor Gitta Ryle (born April 10, 1932 in Vienna, Austria) as she revisits the places where she was hidden during the Holocaust, including Château du Masgelier in France. The film premiered at Dances With Films in Los Angeles and won the Documentary Feature Audience Award.
Synopsis
[edit]The documentary traces Ryle's childhood journey across Austria, France, England, and the United States. It highlights the role of the Jewish rescue organization Œuvre de secours aux enfants (OSE) and the wartime children's home fr:Château du Masgelier, where Ryle was hidden.[1][2]
Ryle was born Brigitta Spindel in Vienna in 1932. She was seven years old when her mother sent her and her elder sister Renee to Belgium and then France as the Nazi troops advance into Austria and then into the rest of Europe. The documentary explains how the two sisters are moved from Château to Château under the protection of the OSE.[1] After seven years, and after the end of war, they were reunited with their mother in the UK. Their father was killed in Auschwitz. The mother and two daughters move to America and then the documentary moves into the phase of explaining how Ryle becomes ill when her children reach the age that she was when leaving her family. Ryle processes the trauma caused by being sent away from her family and then goes on to teach within classrooms and other facilities making sure her forgiveness of her family is a lesson taught to many others.

Release
[edit]The film premiered at Dances With Films on 22 June 2026 and won the Documentary Feature Audience Award.[4][5]
The second premier was in Ryle's home town of Santa Cruz, California and attended by members of her family and local friends.[6]
