Harsh Rajput (born 1 March) is an Indian YouTuber, actor, and content creator from Bihar. He is best known for portraying the fictional journalist character "Dharmendra Dhakad" on his YouTube channel Dhakad News, where he creates satirical and social awareness content.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Harsh Rajput was born in Jasoiya village in Aurangabad district, Bihar. He completed his schooling at DAV Public School, Aurangabad, and graduated from S. N. Sinha College, Aurangabad.
In 2010, Rajput moved to Delhi, initially to prepare for civil services examinations. However, in 2016, he turned to theatre, training and performing with the Asmita Theatre Group as well as other theatre collectives in Delhi. He relocated to Mumbai in 2019 to pursue an acting career, but returned to his hometown during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Career
[edit]During the pandemic, Rajput began creating digital video content focused on public awareness. His satirical videos featuring a reporter character wearing a signature black half-shirt and black mask quickly gained popularity online.
A video portraying the character confronting a local village chief (mukhiya) regarding COVID-19 mask awareness went viral in 2021, leading to widespread fact-checking and media coverage.[2] Media platforms like BOOM Live also fact-checked and featured his scripted satirical videos.[3]
Rajput's satire primarily covers public issues such as paper leaks, examination irregularities, and contemporary socio-political events. He has also featured in a dedicated Bhojpuri voice pack for the mobile game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI).
In January 2023, media outlets reported on his purchase of a luxury automobile from his YouTube earnings.[4][5]
