Private – One or more of the filters triggered are private, and the request needs to be evaluated by an edit filter helper or manager. (automated comment) — MajavahBot (talk · contributions) 06:34, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
Checking with the edit filter managers to see if changes need to be made. We probably should warn users who try to submit non-English text in any namespace, but absent some specific reason that I'm not thinking of I don't see why this should be disallowed outright. – Taking Out The Trash (talk) 15:27, 12 July 2026 (UTC)
- Ignoring the private filter part of this it seems to be working normally. 1233 is designed to catch
Long string of characters with no punctuation or markup
, and things like 44618742 are indeed what the filter is trying to catch. If an EFM or EFH says the private filter is working correctly, this can probably be closed. 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) (contributions) 19:40, 14 July 2026 (UTC)- Except that it's not a "long string of characters containing no punctuation or markup"... it's a message written in Spanish. The filter should only be looking for and catching long strings of random characters containing no punctuation or markup (i.e. gibberish). Good-faith but non-English text != gibberish. Taking Out The Trash (talk) 23:58, 14 July 2026 (UTC)
- Based on a quick skim of the filter I see nothing to determine whether the text is English or not; if I wrote a long run-on sentence in English, it would likely be a filter hit too. Rusty Cat (mobile) (talk) 01:35, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
- ...Which is not a good thing. If we want to have a filter to detect run-on sentences, that should be a separate filter and should be warn-only. A disallow filter like this one should only be looking for strings of random characters that don't actually make any comprehensible words. Taking Out The Trash (talk) 18:12, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- I think the issue here is it's hard to distinguish nonsense from valid words/sentences; factor in other languages, and it's impossible. Rusty Cat (mobile) (talk) 03:19, 30 July 2026 (UTC)

- Description
- I'm trying to discuss on the talk page, an automated abuse filter was triggered. I went to that page, I dont recognize any changes there, I think the automated filter somehow caught my IP which might be non fixed? Or someone else used my IP to edit Wikipedia? Seriously none of those "automated abuse" articles are remotely something I know anything about. I dont know the terminology. ~2026-35346-85 (talk)

- Brighton (filter log) (user filter log)
- Description
- The page for Brighton, a component settlement of the city of Brighton & Hove, and the unitary area of Brighton, Hove and Portslade, in the UK, has been subject to increased attention external to Wikipedia in recent days. This centres on the page's reference to the settlement as a "seaside resort". Whilst this was once the primary function of Brighton, for a long time now its principal function is as an independent built-up area.
I made edits to the page to clarify this hierarchy of functions, as the page was neither accurate nor concise in its description. Whilst doing so, I structured the opening paragraph, which is the text typically picked up by external sources through social media sharing cards and other functions, to more accurately reflect the object of the page's information. These changes are listed in my edit summary.
