"Native name" label

[edit]

Why does this template put a label "Native name" on the native name, unlike other templates like {{Infobox settlement}}? You can see an example at Elba, and an example of {{Infobox settlement}} at Montreal.

Secondarily, why does this template take a |native_name_link= parameter? The link gets applies to the text "Native name", which is an Easter egg link discouraged by the Manual of Style. I thought standard practice was to wrap the |native_name= in {{native_name|lang}}, which adds a label and link, e.g. {{native_name|it|Elba}}Elba (Italian)

Also, the native name shouldn't be bolded by default, per MOS:FOREIGNEQUIV: "Do not boldface non-English names not normally used in English.". — W.andrea (talk) 01:49, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
There are previous discussions in archive 1: § Native name field (2010) and § "Native name" parameter issue - unclear to reader what the language is (2021). — W.andrea (talk) 02:02, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I noticed on Coronado Islands the use of the Native Name label, which doesn't seem proper to use in this case especially due to the page noting indigenous inhabitants and their applicable, perhaps most native name. Since in the Americas the word "native" is especially associated with indigenous groups, this format implies that there is no applicable native group for the islands and that the first to discover or inhabit them were Spanish or Hispanophones. The field need not display the label "Native Name", and should not multiple names be valid for entry? With language labels for each instead of a single--at best vague and at worst offending--label which elects to step into the quagmire of Who Is Really Native Here? Default image size

[edit]

The default image size is far too big, and messes up the article pages. Could someone fix that? kallerna 09:07, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Removing the existing upright code should fix it. It may be a leftover from when the default imgsize was 220px, and so is causing issues now that the default imgsize is 250px. CMD (talk) 11:43, 21 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Pushpin map cleanup

[edit]

As part of a larger refactor of Module:Location map, I will be refactoring the way that this Infobox calls the location map code. The only noticeable change for most will be that the parameter names related to the pushpin maps will now all start with |pushpin_...=. This is part of a larger effort to make things consistent across Infoboxes. When this is done, ALL infoboxes using pushpin maps will use the same parameters. For more information about this, please see this post. As part of this cleanup, I am also going to resolving any conflicting parameters that I can find and cleaning up parameter names that fail to conform to MOS:INFOBOXNAME. Note that this follows a long list of similar clean ups that I have done on countless other Infoboxes. The parameters I plan to replace are the following:
