Real Club Victoria is a Spanish sports club based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. Founded in 1910 as Sporting Club Victoria, it became Real Club Victoria in 1923 after Alfonso XIII accepted the honorary presidency of the club.[1]
The club was one of the most important football clubs in the early history of football in the Canary Islands. It was based in the Puerto de La Luz and the La Isleta district of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.[2]
History
[edit]The origins of the club are associated with José Gonçalves and a football team called Victoria which was already active in the Puerto de La Luz by 1907. The club's statutes and later historical records, however, identify 15 August 1910 as the foundation date of Sporting Club Victoria.[3]
On 5 February 1923, Alfonso XIII accepted the honorary presidency of the club, and Sporting Club Victoria adopted the name Real Club Victoria.[1][3]
Victoria became a prominent force in the regional football of the Canary Islands. It won the Campeonato Regional de Canarias on several occasions, including the 1926–27, 1927–28, 1929–30 and 1932–33 championships, and returned to the top of the competition during the 1940s.[4]
The club also won the Canary Islands championship in 1941–42, 1943–44, 1946–47 and 1948–49. In the same period, it was one of the leading clubs in the Interregional League of the Canary Islands, winning the competition in 1944, 1946 and 1949.[4][5]
In 1925, Victoria became the first Canary Islands football team to undertake a tour of mainland Spain, playing matches in cities including Valencia, Castellón, Barcelona, Zaragoza and Madrid.[6]
In 1949, Real Club Victoria was one of five clubs that participated in the creation of UD Las Palmas, together with Marino FC, CD Gran Canaria, Atlético Club and Arenas Club. Victoria contributed ten players, its coach Luis Valle, and football equipment to the new club.[7]
The historic football side ceased competing as an independent senior club around the creation of UD Las Palmas, although the Real Club Victoria itself continued as a sports and social institution. FEDAC records the disappearance of the football team in 1951 in connection with the creation of UD Las Palmas.[2]

The number of regional championships attributed to Real Club Victoria varies according to the historical classification of the competitions and their different formats. RSSSF records six titles in the main Campeonato Regional de Canarias competition, while historical sources also distinguish the later Campeonato de Canarias and regional competitions of Las Palmas.[4][5]
