Refit definition

[edit]

What qualifies for a refit to include in this infobox? Evan.oltmanns (talk) 21:31, 16 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

To clarify, how invasive or extensive must a refit be to be considered worth adding for this parameter? Evan.oltmanns (talk) 22:05, 16 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Default title to PAGENAMEBASE

[edit]

@Trappist the monk: out of curiosity before I attempt to implement it, is there a reason you chose not to have a default title above the Infobox? I've come across a number of articles (such as Götheborg (ship)) with no title on the Infobox. In my experience, standard procedure is to use a default title of {{PAGENAMEBASE}}. I just want to make sure I'm not missing something and that this wasn't intentionally omitted. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:10, 2 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

You are talking about the html table caption? See these discussions:

Ok... Trappist the monk instead of referring me to 5 threads that are all over a decade old and have dozens of posts is there a chance you could just answer the question? Why is there no default title to the Infobox as is done with nearly every other Infobox on the English wikipedia? If this is established consensus thats fine, but just saying "here are 5 discussions about this from 10-14 years ago" really is not helpful in any way. You and I are not the only editors reading this discussion. Those editors who are not familiar with the topic, or who have forgotten that we had those discussions, may find them enlightening. I gave you the response that I did to avoid putting words into other editors' mouths that they did not speak.

Ok let's try this again, can you please tell me why there is no default title to the Infobox as is done with nearly every other Infobox on the English wikipedia? Please don't just refer me to discussions from over a decade ago. You are an intelligent editor here Trappist. Surely you can give me a simple answer to this. Classification society

[edit]

Any thoughts of including the current classification society in the infobox? Currently dealing with a bunch of Royal Caribbean ships that recently switched from DNV to either LR or ABS, and it would make keeping track of them easier. --Ahecht (TALK

In my opinion, classification society is not relevant enough for inclusion into the infobox. I would also question its relevance in the article body without further purpose such as explanation of an interesting class notation (for example, I have usually included it in connection to a non-generic ice class, but not just on its own). Visual editor updates

[edit]

@Trappist the monk I am trying to update the parameters available inside the visual editor for individual warships using the sandbox. I would appreciate if you don't revert my work. 3vw5 (talk) 13:52, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

The only parameters supported by the {{infobox ship}} template are:
  • |sectionn=
  • |labeln=
  • |datan=
  • |display_title=
  • |infobox_caption=
  • |sclass=
  • |showerrs=
Adding all of the parameters from the various subtemplates to this template's documentation is incorrect and probably misleading. Please don't.
—Trappist the monk (talk) 14:56, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
But I don't understand why aren't sub parameters visible directly inside the visual box ? If I edit a warship using visual editor it will only show me three sections and inside those three section boxes sub parameters are added using source method. 3vw5 (talk) 15:04, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Historically, ship infoboxen have always been collections of templates. Until relatively recently, ship infoboxen consisted of individual image, career, characteristic, and other templates wrapped in a wikitable. In October 2025, we dropped the wikitable wrapper and now wrap the individual templates inside {{infobox ship}} which depends on Module:Infobox ship which depends on Module:Infobox; all the result of a TfD at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2022 April 30 § Template:Infobox ship begin.
The basic architecture was retained because it allows us to have multiples of the same subtemplates in an infobox; see, for example, USS Phoenix (CL-46) where the infobox has three of {{Infobox ship/career}} and two of {{Infobox ship/characteristics}}.
As for Visual editor, that editor is an abomination as is TemplateData which is an attempt to do both documentation and control; neither of which it does well.
Regardless, the TemplateData in Template:Infobox ship/doc should be deleted.
