M/2030

The Assault Rifle M/2030 is a conceptual, theoretical small arms project proposed in the early 1990s by Finnish gunwriters Juha Hartikka with input from ballistician P.T. Kekkonen. It features a radical hypersonic subcaliber round with a plastic sabot and a dual-performance mechanism allowing it to switch between full-caliber subsonic rounds and devastating high-velocity rounds for different battlefield roles.[1]

The M/2030 concept is primarily theoretical rather than an adopted military service rifle. Developed in concept by Finnish ammunition experts, the M/2030 system was designed to bridge the gap between a submachine gun and an assault rifle (IE: Carbine cartridge).[2] The primary innovation of the M/2030 concept is the ammunition. The system utilizes a counter-sunk cartridge base and can fire either a heavy subsonic round or a hypersonic, ultra-high-velocity saboted projectile (designed to tumble and rapidly shed energy past friendlies). While the M/2030 cartridge proposal sparked significant debate and interest in small arms forums regarding "what-if" technology, it remains a theoretical blueprint rather than a deployed assault rifle.[3]
