Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Anime and manga

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Article alerts are available, updated by AAlertBot. More information...

This is a list of discussions primarily on the deletion of pages related to Anime and manga. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. An archive of past discussions is maintained at the first archive (AfDs up to 2021) and this new archive (2021 and beyond).

You can help maintain the list on this page. To list a new discussion for:

  • An article: Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  • A category, template, or miscellaneous page: Edit this page and add the appropriate template to the top of the list - the hidden comments contain code examples and more instructions, and specific documentation can be found at {{cfdl}} and {{xfdl}}. For MFD, add {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}}. If there are no other discussions at the time, be sure to comment out the line at the top stating that.
  • WP:PROD: Edit this page and add *{{prodded|PageName|Date|}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, and replace "Date" with the date that the page was prodded. If there are no other discussions at the time, be sure to comment out the line at the top stating that.

Discussions should also be tagged by adding {{subst:delsort|Anime and manga|--~~~~}} to them, which will inform participants that the discussion has been listed here. There are several scripts and tools available that can help automate this process.

Please note that listing a discussion on, or archiving it from, this page does not add it to, or remove it from, the main page at WP:AFD, WP:CFD, WP:TFD, etc. If you want to nominate a page for deletion, go through the process on the appropriate XFD page before adding it to this page. If you regularly nominate pages for deletion, you may be interested in using Twinkle to help automate the process.

Jimbei (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

I propose merging redirecting to Straw Hats. Previously deleted (log) fancruft split of Straw Hats (discussed on the article's talk page with no consensus, still went ahead and split) which doesn't establish notability. While sources may be reliable according to the page creator (see Talk:Straw Hats for info on the author's split rationale), I only counted around 5 1–3 sources which contribute to significant coverage (with ~90% of sources being either episodes or One Piece volumes). Edit: I believe redirecting would be more appropriate. Axolitl (talk | contribs) 22:36, 1 August 2026 (UTC)reply
Edit 2: After reviewing all the sources in a more thorough manner, instead of 5 reliable sources I'd say there are more like 1–3 (see my comment below)
  • Note: this discussion has been included in the AfD sorting lists for the following topics: Fictional elements and Anime and manga. Shellwood (talk) 22:37, 1 August 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Oppose and speedy close per absence of rationale; The previous page was nominated for redirect rather than deletion, and it was merged since there were less than 10 reliable sources at the time discussion began. The article now currently has over 70 reliable sources indicating WP:GNG, including the character being mentioned in connection to the recent Kumamoto earthquakes. WP:Wikipedia is not a paper encyclopedia. For comparable examples of notability to establish WP:NPOV: Dragon Ball has 25 articles dedicated to the main characters of that series, Batman has an entire template linking to about 100 character articles while Superman also has an entire template linking to over 230 character articles. All of these series have sold less volumes than One Piece , yet have over ~350 articles dedicated to them compared to One Piece. Notability guidelines are clear here and are determined by WP:reliable sources rather than personal opinions. There are more reliable sources than OP claims even if one takes their opinion into complete account and does the math. One of the 10 main characters of One Piece is significant enough as indicated by reliable sources to merit an article. --Plumber (talk) 22:43, 1 August 2026 (UTC)reply
What Wikipedia:Speedy keep rationale are you referring to? See WP:CSK (Criteria for Speedy Keep). Axolitl (talk | contribs) 23:11, 1 August 2026 (UTC)reply
Also, as has been pointed out to you, notability is not WP:INHERITED.
~60 of your over 70 "reliable sources" are primary sources, including show episodes and manga volumes which do not establish notability.
I don't understand your argument about previous nominations. It was nominated for redirection at AfD, and the community agreed, redirecting it. Axolitl (talk | contribs) 23:15, 1 August 2026 (UTC)reply
There are enough reliable secondary sources on this article to support its continued existence. Primary sources must be supported by secondary sources but they cannot be used to disqualify an article itself. Or are we going to redirect all 33,000 articles using Template:Primary sources? There are articles about hundreds of less prominent comic characters according to reliable sources. What is your answer to that, should they all be redirected as well? --Plumber (talk) 23:27, 1 August 2026 (UTC)reply
(Preface this by linking Wikipedia:Notability (fictional characters) § Using sources for reception)
    Addressing the secondary sources:
Here is a list of secondary sources I found about Jimbei, and how much they contribute to notability in my opinion:
    • MeinMMO: likely reliable, although it's I couldn't find much on Wikipedia about its reliability. However, this doesn't really qualify under WP:NCHARACTER. (Does not)
    • CBR, per WP:NCHARACTER, reliable sources should talk about the subject in a real world perspective, which this does not. Also, CBR is considered situationally reliable per WP:CBR. (Does not)
    • Gamescooper, a dead link. Searching for it provides no results. (Does not based on the fact that it doesn't seem to exist)
    • Asahi Shinbum, which seems fairly reliable, and discusses them in a real-life context. (Does)
The Crunchyroll source could, although I am not sure if it would count as secondary considering Crunchyroll is a major distributor of One Piece.
The thesis could definitely be significant coverage of Jimbei, but I unfortunately cannot easily access it.
I ignored all of the "List of One Piece/Straw Hats characters" as these are not about Jimbei in particular, and are generally not accepted per WP:NCHARACTER.
The HARAPAN: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan Dan Psikologi seemed to just mention Jimbei in passing.
    Addressing your other point
I am not here to discuss the inclusion of other articles. I never said primary sources diminish an article's notability. Axolitl (talk | contribs) 00:45, 2 August 2026 (UTC)reply
Also, not a huge deal, but do not remove XfD tags to show dissent. That only applies to WP:PRODs and WP:CSD nominations. Axolitl (talk | contribs) 00:54, 2 August 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Comment: I find the nomination a bit difficult to understand. Five sources giving significant coverage is more than enough to meet GNG. Now, if there is too much weight on primary sourcing, thats usually a reason for trimming vice deletion. But if the audience is better served getting that material on a different page, thats another factor, but its not clear to me if that is true or not. -2pou (talk) 23:56, 1 August 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep per a clear WP:THREE at least - I see Meet Jinbe from Crunchyroll, Who Is Jimbei from Gamescooper, . "10th 'One Piece' statue erected for Kumamoto quake recovery" from Asahi Shinbun, and a master's degree thesis with significant focus on him. Nominator also specifically admits at least five sources go towards sigcov, which more than clears the threshold. WP:PAGEDECIDE doesn't work here, as putting all this info in the article into the main page would either result in a loss of relevant, verifiable information or in a confusing reading experience. Jishara (talk) 00:02, 2 August 2026 (UTC)reply
See my reply above about the sources. The five figure was just from a skim of all the sources. After doing a more thorough scan of sources, I don't think the number was five. Axolitl (talk | contribs) 00:47, 2 August 2026 (UTC)reply
Redirect to List of One Piece characters per last AfD. This was already redirected with consensus in the last AfD and I'm not seeing any new significant coverage to prove it differently here now. Skimming the sources I see nothing in the way of significant analysis or impact outside of a statue, which I would argue is not enough for a reasonable split out. Plot summary similarly is not enough for a split, and if deemed too much should be trimmed down rather than relying on a SIZESPLIT. I propose draftifying because this is clearly WP:TOOSOON and WP:CRYSTAL . All sources are just churnalism of the same comic con announcement. WP:PRIMARY. I'm not seeing any reliable, secondary coverage of the subject that confirms production has actually begun. Should be incubated in draftspace until we get more info. Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
