Attribution notice required

[edit]

Please add the following as sentence 2-3, after "...a non-English-language Wikipedia.":

Placing this template on the Talk page of an article is '''not sufficient''' to satisfy licensing requirements. To do so, a note identifying the Wikimedia source (such as an [[Help:Interlanguage links|interlanguage link]]) and the page name must be provided ''in an edit summary'' in the translated page.

Thank you. -- asilvering (talk) 21:57, 28 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

 Not done: {{edit template-protected}} is usually not required for edits to the documentation or categories of templates using a documentation subpage. Use the 'edit' link at the top of the green "Template documentation" box to edit the documentation subpage. SWinxy (talk) 04:13, 29 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Timestamps

[edit]

It would be useful if this template was made to be similar to how {{copied}} works, with a |translated-date= a timestamp for the date of the |insertversion=, and |original-date= for the timestamp of the article version being translated. It  — Scott • talk 20:37, 27 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I agree with Scott, this should be added -- 64.229.90.32 (talk) 21:00, 1 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the edit protected template. I'm an admin so could myself, I just haven't done anything with our template language in years 😂  — Scott • talk 21:12, 1 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
No problemo, you're welcome -- 64.229.90.32 (talk) 04:35, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

broken on Simple

[edit]

Broken on the sister Wiki (copied over), link: Template:Translated_page page (simple), because template:Translated_page breaks when the translated page Wiki project (2 letters) is set to "Simple"; this happens on en., using the template with Simple as the Wiki too sometimes but this is nearly always fixed with | used as escape char at the end.

Putting this here to see if anyone (with prot. page edit perms) would like to look at template as how it stands on Simple.Wiki. As well as this getting fixed on the en. Wiki. template if the reader manages to find the bug exists here (when using the Simple.Wiki template). Maybe it is simple as copying over the rest of the en. Wiki code and documentation. I hope you can make it a little better on Simple. Wiki by just taking a quick look at it for me.

The problem using the template on (any) article_talk: Simple.Wikipedia page with the wiki (2 letter) "Simple" as the translated page source ({{Translated page|Simple), where on every other Wiki it uses 2 letters (like en). Template is broken on the Simple Wiki page linked above (Template:Translated_Page (simple) or its talk page, as text), (oldrev=9040939 is current), where it displays one of the bugs ("This template contains a translation of an Unspecified article from Please provide the language code of the source wiki."). In many of the bugs, the wikicode escapes (from template) into the text the reader sees (this results in the box display showing something like "localesource:[/wiki/[[" or some text like that). The bug can disappear if you brute force it by using | bars in a way that is unusual. signed: simple:Catcus_DeMeowwy

Change the following parameter to better account for when a page is a total translation. If the parameter is set to "total", it should output the word "total". If it is set to "partial" then it should output the word "partial". In all other cases, it should be set to "total or partial" as it is now.

−
{{#if:{{{partial|}}}|partial|total or partial}}
+
{{#switch:{{{partial|}}}| total = total| partial = partial| #default = total or partial}}

@Gommeh: I get what you mean, but the wording |partial=total makes very little sense to me. Est. 2021 (talk · contribs) 12:53, 12 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I understand, but honestly I'm not sure if there's a better word to describe it than that. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to contribute them. Gommeh (talk! sign!) 14:31, 12 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Gommeh: Well, first of all, {{#if:{{{partial|}}}|partial|total or partial}} means you get "partial" if you set this parameter to any non-blank value when the translation is a partial translation, while {{#switch:{{{partial|}}}| total = total| partial = partial| #default = total or partial}} means you will only get "partial" when the parameter is specifically set to |partial=partial, turning the output of any other existing wording (e.g. |partial=yes) from "partial" to "total or partial", hence disrupting all occurrences without any retro-compatibility.
IMHO, the better solution would be something like:
−
{{#if:{{{partial|}}}|partial|total or partial}}
+
{{#if:{{{total|}}}|total|{{#if:{{{partial|}}}|partial|total or partial}}}}
basically meaning: if |total= is set to any non-blank value, it's total; if |partial= is set to any non-blank value, it's partial; otherwise that's total or partial. Est. 2021 (talk · contribs) 08:31, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's fine by me. Gommeh (talk! sign!) 20:06, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
