Dab issue
[edit]Hi @Sophivorus:: looks like this map causes links to disambiguation pages, as many of the two character country codes do not link to the proper country: e.g. Canada is linked as "CA" and Brazil is linked as BR, which are disambiguation pages. I noticed this initially on Freedom of Thought Report but it appears this same behavior occurs with World Snooker Tour. And I also see this "issue" on the sample "ISO codes and color alias" section. - @Natg 19 The issue on Freedom of Thought Report is a performance issue. The module takes too long to process those 5 heavy maps and times out. These last few days I made several changes to the module and a few significant performance improvements, but apparently they were not enough. There's always a limit as to how fast a module can be made, but perhaps we're not there yet, as performance is not really my strong point. @Aidan9382 Perhaps you could take a look at Module:ChoroplethMap? I've seen you do wonders on Module:Excerpt before. :-) Sophivorus (talk) 21:46, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- I've had a bit of a tamper with it, and while the code itself might have some minor improvements, the issue is that, for whatever reason, the ending extensionTag call to make the mapframe is taking up probably about 98% of the script's runtime. So unfortunately, the only solutions I really see are A) improving the Kartographer extension when specifying a lot of data (which is coded in a mix of PHP and JS, so that's out of my scope), or B) somehow finding a way to make the json used more efficient (or just show less information). - @Aidan9382 Thanks! @Natg 19 For what's worth, I just did some performance improvements to the code (diff). I then visited Freedom of Thought Report and the issue persisted. However, after some minutes I visited again and the 5 maps generated successfully. But then I purged the page and only 4 generated successfully. So I think the success rate depends on how busy the Wikimedia tile servers are at the moment of generating the maps. So it's unreliable. Unfortunately the only thing I can recommend at this point is to reduce the number of dynamic maps on that article. Sorry. Perhaps you can consider opening the last 4 maps, capturing screenshots and uploading them to Commons...? :'-) Sophivorus (talk) 14:01, 13 May 2026 (UTC)

Crimea included as Russian territory
[edit]The maps generated by this template include Crimea as Russian territory. That runs counter to consensus established eg. here. Can this be fixed in a timely manner, or should usage of this template be disallowed for maps including Russia (and presumably Ukraine)? Sakkura (talk) 14:38, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
