"Current status" considered harmful

[edit]

Having something labeled as "current" without context clearly goes against WP:RELTIME. I notice someone above commenting that they understood this field shouldn't contain a date; I would argue that a date should be mandatory.

Websites are often ephemeral, and Wikipedia articles often fall into disrepair. A status of "Active" without an "as of" date is not helpful. NapoliRoma (talk) 18:37, 30 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

... or we remove the field outright. There already is a field for a dissolution date, so we don't really need an extra field explaining that the dissolution date indicates a dissolution. IceWelder [] 19:13, 30 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
The dissolution date seems connected to the Founded field, both being more corporate (Dissolved explicitly links to a page on corporate law; see your own answer about it below), while current status seems more connected to the Launched field or is just standalone. There was actually discussion about this and some support for having a proper non-corporate closure field added, though it seems to have been ignored. There's plenty of website articles that don't seem to know what to do with having both sets: Gurl.com, a featured article, uses both Founded and Launched, with both having identical dates in them, but it can't just switch to using only Launched because it has to use Dissolved for when the website shut down, since there's no other option for that. Extreme nitpick: etc should have trailing period

[edit]

In the comment:

...set as "on", "y", etc, otherwise omit/leave blank. Does nothing for mobile users...

Can we add a trailing "." after "etc"? JS Wiki Browser/AutoWikiBrowser's regex is constantly complaining about it. I guess I could delete the comment on pages altogether, but might as well solve this forward for future users, imo. Smallangryplanet (talk) 13:08, 7 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

👍. IceWelder [] 17:36, 7 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Add support for |logo_class

[edit]

Add support for the parameter |logo_class= to this template.

A proposed version is at "Template:Infobox website/sandbox" permalink #1326526058 (code diff as of writing). A usage in action is at "User:LightNightLights/sandbox2" permalink #1326526603. LightNightLights (talkcontribs) 12:10, 9 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Done. Thanks for the sandbox link. It is always helpful. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:27, 9 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

"sizedefault" forcing size?

[edit]

I think it would be best if sizedefault=300px was removed from here. As is it forces images to be that large regardless of user preferences, and images smaller than that are stretched to that size and look blurry as a result. What's the reason for it being larger than the default user setting of 250px anyway? Ringtail Raider (talk) 08:12, 14 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Adding |category = (possibly |political_position = "Political alignment")

[edit]

There is a |type = rendered as "Type of site" and usually filled as Online magazine, but shouldn't we add |category = too, which can identify broader topic (Politics, culture; Environment; Art, music; etc.). Further, if political online magazine, possibly we should have |political_position = which renders as "Political alignment" that can be identified as "Liberal", "Conservative", "left", "center", "right"? ౪ Santa ౪99° 23:22, 16 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

What's the difference?

[edit]

What is the difference between |founded= and |launch_date=? Charles Essie (talk) 20:06, 28 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Based on context alone, I'd assume |founded= is the date the company behind the website was founded and |launch_date= the date the website launched. IceWelder [] 20:13, 28 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
