Why use it?

What is the point of this template, rather than simply adding a hidden comment directly to a template? For example, here are 1200 always-subst templates that have been around for years, have hidden comments, and do not use it. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 03:51, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mathglot. This template exists because it can expand wikitext (namely parameters, parser functions, modules and templates) in comments, whereas a plain HTML comment cannot. See {{Shortdesc there}} for an example. --Grufo (talk) 04:06, 22 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
