Batavian Naval Flag

[edit]

{{editprotected}} Could the Batavian Naval Flag: Image:Batavische Rep Kriegsmarine.gif be added as an alias to this template? Centy – reply• contribs – 02:14, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

 Not done How, and why? Happy‑melon 21:42, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Add '''| flag alias-bat = Batavische Rep Kriegsmarine.gif''' on the line after '''|flag alias-pri'''. Why? Because the Batavian Naval Flag is a recognised historical Dutch flag which should be able to be called upon when using the Netherlands flagicon template when we wish to use this flag, say in an infobox. Centy – reply• contribs – 22:22, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Would Template:Country data Batavian Republic (for {{flagicon|Batavian Republic}}) be a better choice? — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 04:28, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
That's fine. Centy – reply• contribs – 11:38, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

The current data page links to the Netherlands article, when many articles probably want instead to link to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The latter is the sovereign state; whereas the former is a European constituent country of the latter. Can we have an option or something in this template for it to link the the latter article? Thanks. --Spoon! (talk) 22:52, 19 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay someone created a template for the Kingdom: Template:Country data Kingdom of the Netherlands. Can someone add it under related templates? --Spoon! (talk) 05:27, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
just took me quite some time to find out the existence of Template:Country data Kingdom of the Netherlands. The link request of last year is therefore still valid... L.tak (talk) 22:50, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Air force ensign

[edit]

Please could the following adjustments be made:
| flag alias-air force = Image:NL-VLAG-Luchtmacht.svg | link alias-air force = Royal Netherlands Air Force

Could someone please add Image:Naval Jack of the Netherlands.svg as the naval variant? ChrisDHDR 19:55, 24 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Add variants

[edit]

{{editprotected}} Could you please add the following code (previous two sections plus a bit of clean up):

| flag alias-pri = Prinsenvlag.svg
| flag alias-air force = Image:NL-VLAG-Luchtmacht.svg
| link alias-air force = Royal Netherlands Air Force
| flag alias-naval = Naval Jack of the Netherlands.svg
| link alias-naval = Royal Netherlands Navy
...
| var1 = pri
| var2 = naval
| var3 = air force

which would replace the folowing lines:

| flag alias-pri = Prinsenvlag.svg
| link alias-naval = Royal Netherlands Navy
...
| var1 = pri

Thanks, ChrisDHDR 18:36, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

 Done, athlough I don't think the var2 and var3 were necessary, actually. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:15, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I have partially reverted this. Please see the conventions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships/Ensigns, where naval ensigns are to be used with Template:Navy, and not naval jacks. The correct flag for {{navy|Netherlands}} is the national flag, which is also the ensign. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 21:51, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Edit request from L.tak, 18 August 2010

[edit]

{{editprotected}} Could the following be added to the profile (2 out of 3 were already on the talkpage for some time)

  • Air force flag

| flag alias-air force = Image:NL-VLAG-Luchtmacht.svg | link alias-air force = Royal Netherlands Air Force

  • Old flag/country

| related3 = Batavian Republic groet! L.tak (talk) 16:46, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Not done Please read the sections above. The consensus at WP:SHIPS is to use naval ensigns not naval jacks, and the naval ensign for the Netherlands is the national flag. (Many countries are like this - see WP:WikiProject Ships/Ensigns). As for the air force flag, that is unused in icon form on Wikipedia, so there is no reason to add it to this flag template, as this is a highly-transcluded template. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 17:02, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Prince's Flag

[edit]

Could someone please tell me the wiki-code I need to use to make a little flagicon Prince's Flag appear in an article? Concrete Cloverleaf (talk) 08:19, 9 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Template-protected edit request on 8 January 2019

[edit]

flag alias-1937 = Flag of the Netherlands (WFB 2000).jpg
flag alias-2004 = Flag of the Netherlands (WFB 2004).gif
| var2 = 1937
| var3 = 2004
Remove these lines to remove flags as they are just based on the shades used in pictures in different editions of the CIA World Factbook and not are official or even real changes to the flag used by Netherlands, they should not be included and especially not linked to a specific year
There would be no errors of pages that use these files, which only a single page does, which I have tested and which auto-corrects if this would be changed

Neither is still in use:

Could we add some sort of note at the top of these templates?

[edit]

It is very easy to confuse the Netherlands with the Kingdom of the Netherlands which are not quite the same thing, the Kingdom of the Netherlands is a sovereign state while the Netherlands is simply a constituent part of that sovereign state similar to how England is a constituent part of the United Kingdom. However do the similarities in name cause this template to often be used in a context where a link to the Kingdom of the Netherlands would be more appropriate so I suggest that we add some sort of disclaimer to the top of this template explaining the difference between the two and a explanation of how to use Country data Kingdom of the Netherlands while still having the text read simply "Netherlands"

Note: I have also added a similar comment to the talk page for Country data Denmark as the two nations have a similar situation PharaohCrab speak𓀁 works𓀨 15:20, 15 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
