Add icon

All widely used templates should have distinct icon to avoid banner blindness. I suggest adding this icon, as it was the most relevant i could find. See {{Connected contributor/sandbox}}:
The following Wikipedia contributor may be personally or professionally connected to the subject of this page. Relevant policies and guidelines may include conflict of interest, autobiography, and neutral point of view.

Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before creating an edit request. Template already has an icon. Please establish consensus for changing that icon first. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:24, 20 December 2025 (UTC)

Consensus can be presumed until disagreement becomes evident. ... Most of the time, you will find that it's fine to assume consensus, even if just for now, as it's more important to keep editing and cooperating smoothly in good faith as much as possible.
This is a minor change to a template that only appears on talk pages, not articles. Could you at least try implementing it and see if anyone complains? I don't want to bother people for such a small change. FaviFake (talk) 16:35, 20 December 2025 (UTC) - Agreed with Zackmann. I object to the principle that "All widely used templates should have distinct icon to avoid banner blindness"; you should leave well enough alone rather than trying to force your clearly controversial vision on others. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:59, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
your clearly controversial vision
????You haven't stated any drawbacks that could derive from the addition of the icon. If all icons were left to their defaults, we'd have a much worse UX for our users. Just because someone didn't want to go look for a specific icon when they created the template doesn't mean it shan't be changed. FaviFake (talk) 17:10, 20 December 2025 (UTC)- Again you are making an assumption and drawing conclusions. There is no problem with the same icon being used. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:17, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
- Yes there is, the templates are indistinguishable from each other unless the user reads them. That's what icons are for. FaviFake (talk) 19:02, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
- Well the text is pretty distinguishable.... A unique icon is not needed to set it apart from other templates. You can read the message and see what it says. In any case, I'm not interested in debating this further. I don't agree with the change, nor does Pppery so at this point not going to implement it. If consensus swings the other way, then of course the change can be made. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:21, 20 December 2025 (UTC)

[edit]"editedhere= Yes/no parameter (optional). If the COI editor has edited the present article, enter "yes"." A clarification is needed in the case when article subject involved editor who creates an article, have edited the article that failed GNG, but the same article comes back at a later time. If they participate in discussion, does it qualify as yes? If they don't participate at all after the recreation, is it still an yes? Graywalls (talk) 20:19, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
- If the editor has not edited the article that was newly created (not previously deleted articles with the same name, unless largely derived from the previous deletion or was un-deleted), then they have not edited the present article. Revolving Doormat (talk) 22:56, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Revolving Doormat:, I've never come across this situation before in years of editing Wikipedia. This is why I'm asking other experienced editors with prior experience on something like this who might remember how it was resolved in the past. Graywalls (talk) 13:28, 20 December 2025 (UTC)

[edit]When |declared=no and |editedhere=yes, the template changes to The following Wikipedia contributor has declared a personal or professional connection...
. It may be that the |checked parameter overrides |declared. As an example, see Talk:Greco Belgica. Snowman304|talk 08:59, 17 January 2026 (UTC)

I think that in this part of the code has an error:{{#if:{{{U1-declared|{{{declared|}}}}}}| has declared a personal or professional connection| may be personally or professionally connected}}}}''' to the subject
If only a single user is being identified, |declared= or U1-declared= can be used. But if either of these is populated with "no", the template reads as if the contributor has declared a connection instead of "may be connected". The easy workaround for me right now is to leave the parameter blank, but there may be uses in other places where someone populated the parameter with a no. The template code should be updated to handle that case. Unfortunately, I'm not template-savvy enough to know what the fix would entail. Alternatively, the documentation could be updated to remove the "yes/no" parameter option. -2pou (talk) 22:56, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
