Template:Pali Exegesis displays the post-canonical texts, commentaries, sub-commentaries, and other Pāli literature in a collapsible sidebar, following the arrangement of the Chaṭṭha Saṅgāyana Tipiṭaka edition produced after the Sixth Buddhist Council. It serves as a companion to the main Template:Pali Canon. The color theme uses a soft pastel pink (#FED5E7) based on the robes of the Burmese thilashin.

Usage

Simply insert:

By default, all sections are collapsed. To expand one or more sections when the page loads, add the section values described below.

Structure

The sidebar is divided into three main sections:

Section	Value	Contents
Aṭṭhakathā	atthakatha	Commentaries on the Vinaya Piṭaka, Sutta Piṭaka, and Abhidhamma Piṭaka.
Ṭīkā	tika	Sub-commentaries (ṭīkā) and sub-sub-commentaries (anuṭīkā), including the manuals and compendia grouped with them in the Chaṭṭha Saṅgāyana edition.
Añña	anna	Miscellaneous Pāli literature: the Visuddhimagga, the Saṅgāyanapucchavissajjanā, and seven collapsible sub-collections.

The Añña section contains the following sub-collections, each of which can be expanded individually:

Buddhavandanā-gantha-saṅgaha	buddhavandana	Devotional and panegyric texts in praise of the Buddha.
Vaṃsa-gantha-saṅgaha	vamsa	Chronicles and historical works.
Byākaraṇa-gantha-saṅgaha	byakarana	Grammatical treatises, lexicons, prosody, and poetics.
Nīti-gantha-saṅgaha	niti	Gnomic and didactic maxim literature.
Pakiṇṇaka-gantha-saṅgaha	pakinaka	Other miscellaneous texts.
Sihaḷa-gantha-saṅgaha	sihala	Pāli works of Sri Lankan origin.

Parameters

• |1=, |2=, |3=, |expand=: control which section(s) are expanded when the page loads. Up to four values can be given at once, so several sections can be expanded simultaneously. Supported values:
  • atthakatha: expands the Aṭṭhakathā section.
  • tika: expands the Ṭīkā section.
  • anna: expands the Añña section, with all its sub-collections still collapsed.
  • ledisayado, buddhavandana, vamsa, byakarana, niti, pakinaka, sihala: expand the corresponding sub-collection. The parent Añña section is expanded automatically, so anna does not need to be added.
• Values are case-sensitive and are written in lowercase without diacritics. Unrecognized values are ignored.
• If no value is given, all sections are collapsed.

Examples

• {{Pali Exegesis|atthakatha|tika}}: opens both the Aṭṭhakathā and Ṭīkā sections.
