Wording or mistake

[edit]

"Balthazar's blackness has been the subject of considerable recent scholarly attention; in art, it is found mostly in northern Europe, beginning from the 12th century, and becoming very common in the north by the 15th."

hi, this may not be an issue whatsoever, but i was wondering if this phrase was wordly corrected or if it had been a mistake, specifically the part that says "it is found mostly in northern Europe, beginning from the 12th century, and becoming very common in the north by the 15th" it feels like the phrase should either say southern europe, and then explain that it becomes common in the north by the 15th century, or, if it is right, wouldnt it sound a bit redundant to say that it becomes common in the north again? the topic at hand was already how it started in the north.
