Allegation vs accusation

[edit]

The current title of using allegations is worse than accusation. It’s like genocide against Palestinians never happened.

allegation : a statement, made without giving proof, that someone has done something wrong or illegal

accusation : a claim that someone has done something wrong or illegal : a charge that someone has committed a fault or crime 🐈Cinaroot  💬 05:34, 14 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Amakuru any thoughts on this? 🐈Cinaroot  💬 05:41, 14 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Cinaroot: and thanks for your note. I have explained the rationale for moving the page from Palestinian genocide accusation to Palestinian genocide allegations above – although there was no consensus to move to Palestinian genocide, there was a consensus that the previous title involving accusations was not suitable, very few contributors supported retaining that, hence the qualifier was changed to allegations per WP:NOGOODOPTIONS. Karim Khan sexual misconduct allegations

[edit]

I see that Karim Ahmad Khan's suspension over sexual misconduct has been added to this article. A noteworthy development and not to dismiss the allegations at all, but I'm not sure this is relevant to this article as it doesn't impact the veracity of the genocide allegations one way or another. GnocchiFan (talk) 19:34, 12 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I see this has now been reverted. GnocchiFan (talk) 12:35, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I fail to see how Kareem Khan’s suspension could be considered not applicable to the article? I additionally fail to see how reverting it without discussion is seen as balanced per Wikipedia guidelines. There is much information in the article already regarding South Africa’s allegations and the ICC’s first determination of plausibility. So how could the chief prosecutor in the case being removed for misconduct not be relevant? It is a well documented legal action against the chief prosecutor. I ask, what is the reason to not include it when it was deemed necessary to include the ICC’s early first determination in the article already? If information is deemed necessary for the veracity of the article, certainly updates to said information must be deemed necessary also, no? The reversion should be reversed. 1969camaro12121966 (talk) 13:21, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
You are absolutely correct. The information on the suspension of Khan in no way affects the veracity of the Genocide charge. It does, however, potentially alter the judiciousness of those judging the accusations. It is biased to not include this information. 1969camaro12121966 (talk) 13:30, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Editors don't need to concern themselves with things that they personally believe may impact the judiciousness of the court. Editors aren't on the defense or prosecution teams. If there are reliable sources that explain how this may impact the rulings the court has issued etc. maybe they might be pertinent to the article about the case. But adding stuff like this to an article lead based on a personal view is a behavior that is usually associated with advocacy rather than ensuring compliance with the policies and guidelines (like WP:LEAD. The lead is just a summary of the article. It isn't there as a way to inject information into LLM summaries for example. Sean.hoyland (talk) 15:03, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
This is in no way a personal view. It is the addition of new information I researched regarding information the author chose to put in the article, and directly relates to the Genocide charge that the article is considering. The article, from a WP recommended source, directly connects the genocide prosecution and its timing to both Khan and the victim’s personal feelings about the sexual abuse allegation. It should be un-reverted. 1969camaro12121966 (talk) 15:59, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Khan has not charged Israel with genocide, and the BBC source you used says nothing about genocide. Are you aware that the ICC and the ICJ are 2 separate institutions? Rainsage (talk) 16:44, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Khan, as chief prosecutor for ICC, charged Israeli leaders (Some charges later dropped) with war crimes, including genocide. 1969camaro12121966 (talk) 17:32, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I quoted the Wall Street Journal, not the BBC. No idea why you are so interested in keeping this update out of the article. The Wall Street Journal clearly makes the case for what I added and was retracted. 1969camaro12121966 (talk) 17:36, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
please share a source that says Khan charged Israeli leaders with genocide.
in this edit, you added a source from the BBC . Rainsage (talk) 17:51, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

that WSJ article does not say Khan charged israeli leaders with genocide. it says: "The court issued the warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity." Rainsage (talk) 18:40, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Let me read it again. I have been in the OR all day and answering WP between cases. Thank you for having a read. 1969camaro12121966 (talk) 19:44, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Khan is/was an officer of the court. Regardless who brought the case against Israel - and their suspension over alleged sexual misconduct has no bearing on the case against Israel. If Khan is fired - then another prosecutor will lede the case. Your insertion of the content is prejudicing the case against Israel - especially in the lede and is undue. Cinaroot (talk) 20:05, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Also that para talk's about ICJ case. Why are you putting ICC or Khan's firing there? Cinaroot (talk) 20:16, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
this wikipedia article doesn't cover Khan or the ICC case he brought at all so the allegations against Khan definitely doesn't belong in the lede Rainsage (talk) 20:19, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yah. - the editor is new. I've asked them to review wp:npov on their talk. Cinaroot (talk) 20:21, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Understood. Yes new. 1969camaro12121966 (talk) 21:43, 13 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
