Washington Post article
[edit]This source from August 21, 2017 discusses John Patler in some detail, including his later life, and his son's career as a African-American studies professor. I'm guessing it's a more reliable source than Murderpedia, also. Grayfell (talk) 11:15, 10 January 2018 (UTC)
Related Articles
[edit]In what way is Mark Errin Rust a related article? He's an Australian sociopathic serial rapist and murderer with Klinefelter's Syndrome. Not a Greek-American Neo-Nazi with father issues. Nuttyskin (talk) 23:23, 20 June 2018 (UTC)
Murderpedia
[edit]I have removed references to Murderpedia.org; it appears to be a self-published source, and under WP:BLPSPS, we cannot use self-published third party sources as sources for biographies of living persons. --Nat Gertler (talk) 06:15, 22 May 2019 (UTC)

John Patsalos → John Patler – WP:COMMONNAME. This was his birth name and he returned to it several decades later, but virtually all sources on Patler except some extremely local news reports primarily call him John Patler, as it was his name during the only period of his life where he did things that were notable (draw racist cartoons, murder a guy), so despite technical name changes this is far and away the most common option. When he renamed himself to Patsalos he returned to private life, which we should respect (in the article we should still call him Patsalos before and after he changed his name, as the sources do, but these are very small portions of the article). Sources that call him Patler include all encyclopedia entries I have seen, all reliable books that cover him, and almost all news reports. Was moved without discussion several years ago. Ngrams - Patsalos is so obscure google doesn't even have an ngram for it. PARAKANYAA (talk) 02:15, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
- Move per PARAKANYAA. No widespread use for his current name; almost all sources on the subject call him Patler. 🔮🛷 Vote Kane 🛷🔮 (talk) 13:48, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
Death
[edit]In a recent episode of the Weird Little Guys podcast, host Molly Conger stated that Patler died on Christmas Day last year (Dec. 25, 2025) [Weird Little Guys, "Outside Agitators", Thu June 4, 2026, minute 20].
I don't have another, more formal, source to cite for the date of death. Bekant (talk) 13:02, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
- I don't think a podcast is a good enough source to report someone's death as fact. PARAKANYAA (talk) 14:58, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
