- Hopefully answered now following extensive revision in Feb. 2014. He was elected in 1912 jointly by the Republicans and Democrats in order to beat the Socialists. He was doubtlessly a Republican, appointed to various diplomatic posts by Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover. Carrite (talk) 06:58, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
