High instance
[edit]Would someone knowledgeable provide an explanation of or link to an article about "high instance"? I'm unclear as to whether it means the same as "high instance". 71.90.72.164 (talk) 06:12, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
Colombia?
[edit]Should the list of countries include Colombia? The Supreme Court of Justice of Colombia article describes its three chambers as courts of cassation. Ejegg (talk) 19:56, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
Court of cassation: Should this topic even exist?
[edit]Although 'cassation' is an English word, it does not have the meaning assigned to it here except in the attempts to translate non-English variants into a seemingly equivalent 'English' word, usually by non-native speakers of English or English native speakers who have little or no knowledge of the law. For instance, the Dutch 'cassatie' is frequently translated into English as 'cassation', 'in cassation' or something similar instead of what it actually is, namely, an appeal to the Supreme Court.
A so-called 'court of cassation is nothing other in English than an appeal to a supreme court (a final appeal). Such an appeal is usually only adjudicated on a point or points of law and not the facts. Perhaps it would be better for searches for 'cassation' in this context to be directed to a topic titled 'appeal to a supreme court', 'final legal appeal' or something similar? 81.99.171.161 (talk) 13:42, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
