Semitic studies

Semitic studies, also called Semitistics, Semitics or Semitology, is the academic discipline dedicated to the studies of Semitic languages and literatures and the history of the Semitic-speaking peoples. Specialists in Semitic studies are known as Semitists, less commonly Semiticists or Semitologists, the three terms being equivalent.

It includes Assyriology, Aramaic, Arabic, Hebraic, and Ethiopian studies, as well as comparative studies of Semitic languages aiming at the reconstruction of Proto-Semitic.
