Magic word requested

[edit]

I have opened a phab ticket requesting a magic word that would allow this template to be updated automatically. See phab:T278506. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 02:57, 26 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

They closed it as a duplicate. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 14:49, 26 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Redrose64, and a duplicate of a declined task. So it looks like this won't be coming anytime soon, unless someone who knows Lua takes up the idea directly above and finds a way to make it work. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 18:58, 26 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

linked=no option does not appear to work

[edit]

Unless I am misunderstanding the documentation, it appears that |linked=no does not work. I also tried blank |link= and blank |url=, but in each case, the link in the body of the userbox is generated. Please see this testcase.

My goal is to provide an option for editors who have added a wikilink to the edit count, as in the second testcase. I think this used to work fine, but now it creates a "wikilink inside external link" Linter error. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:34, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Then it's a deficiency in Module:User contrib. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:47, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I assume so, since the template just calls the module. This is the talk page for that module, so I posted the note here. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:40, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Color accessibility issue

[edit]

When |log=yes, the dark-green background color is too dark to be readable (either plain or link text) for many people on many devices. Suggest changing that #3B7B46 (that's what my color-picker app says it is) to a somewhat similar but more practical #2B9A59.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  20:27, 31 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Template:User contribTemplate:User contributions userbox – This template is a holdout to the general trend towards expanding template names for clarity. This is especially important since we have a similarly-named template at {{User contributions}}. at {{User contributions link}}. per Wikipedia:Template namespace § Template names:

Template names should be made of one or more words, and describe the template clearly, as in {{Math topics sidebar}}. Template names are easiest to remember if they follow standard English spelling, spacing, and capitalization. Avoid having templates whose names differ only in case, spacing, or punctuation.

Of course, the old title will still remain a redirect so people can keep using it as a shortcut. FaviFake (talk) 18:28, 21 June 2026 (UTC)  Relisting. 1isall (talk | contribs) 18:48, 28 June 2026 (UTC)  Relisting. Squawk7700 (talk) 15:34, 15 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

In template space, the prefix "User " (with a space) is used for userboxes almost exclusively, so adding the word "userbox" after "User contributions" is not needed. I recommend moving this page to Template:User contributions over the existing redirect, which already points here. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:48, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I meant to say that the similarly-named template is {{User contributions link}}. Having {{User contributions link}} and {{User contributions}} at the same time can be confusing. IS there another disambiguator we can use? FaviFake (talk) 15:42, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I would move {{User contributions link}} to {{Contributions link}}. I don't think there is another kind of "contributions" to link to. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:04, 28 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Well, that doesn't really help with distinguishing them. I came here after the ping and I don't even remember what these two templates do, and I surely won't understand it if they're renamed to {{User contributions link}} and {{Contributions link}}. FaviFake (talk) 23:19, 15 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
That would be confusing, which is why it's not the proposal. I propose:
{{User contrib}} {{User contributions}} (to comply with template naming guidelines, and to keep it in the space of "User X" templates where userboxes live (see WP:UBXNS). Note that this is just a swap of a redirect with its template target. Another option would be something like {{User contributions total}})
{{User contributions link}} {{Contributions link}} (to get it out of the space where userboxes live while complying with guidelines)
Does that help clarify? – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:45, 15 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Right, thanks. I can support this. FaviFake (talk) 08:55, 16 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
 Done. Thanks for the fruitful discussion. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:59, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
No worries! I like fruit :)   FaviFake (talk) 15:47, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Relisting comment: How should the ambiguity with {{User contributions link}} be resolved? So far proposed are either moving User contributions link or choosing another name for this template. I left notice on Template talk:User contributions link so that the template could be moved should consensus here be found to do so. I strongly encourage @FaviFake and Jonesey95: to continue this discussion if you have the resources to do so. Best, Squawk7700 (talk) 15:34, 15 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
