Enrique De Putrón Cavareda (1837 – 18 July 1899) was a Chilean politician and diplomat who served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile and as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Worship and Colonization under President Federico Errázuriz Echaurren.[1]
He was a member and party leader of the Conservative Party. He also participated in educational organizations and later represented Chile diplomatically in Argentina.[1]
Early life
[edit]De Putrón was born in Santiago in 1837 to Enrique de Putrón and Jesús de la Cavareda y Trucios.[1]
In 1860, he served as a director of the Sociedad de Instrucción Primaria. He was also a director of the Sociedad de Escuelas Católicas Santo Tomás de Aquino.[1]
Political career
[edit]A member of the Conservative Party, De Putrón also held a leadership position within the party.[1]
He entered parliamentary politics as a substitute deputy for Santiago for the 1873–1876 term. He was subsequently elected to the Chamber of Deputies for San Fernando for the 1876–1879 term and was reelected for the same constituency for the 1879–1882 term.[1]
During his second term representing San Fernando, De Putrón served on the elections and petitions committee and as a substitute member of the war and navy committee.[1]
President Federico Errázuriz Echaurren appointed De Putrón Minister of Foreign Affairs, Worship and Colonization on 18 September 1896. He remained in office until 20 November of that year.[1]
On 24 November 1898, De Putrón was appointed Chilean envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary to Argentina.[1]
He died on 18 July 1899.[1]
