Tahini's is a Canadian fast-casual restaurant chain specializing in Mediterranean fusion cuisine.[1][2] Founded in 2012 in London, Ontario, the company operates franchise and corporate locations across Canada and the United States.[1][3] The chain is notable in corporate finance for converting its cash reserves into Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset beginning in August 2020.[2][4]
History
[edit]Tahini's was established in 2012 by brothers Omar and Aly Hamam after acquiring a restaurant in London, Ontario.[1][2] The company initially operated as a single local restaurant before expanding into a franchise business model across Canada.[1][3]
In February 2025, the company began international expansion into the United States, opening franchise locations in Illinois with further regional development planned in Chicago and New Jersey.[1]
Corporate treasury strategy
[edit]In August 2020, Tahini's converted 100% of its corporate cash reserves into Bitcoin to hedge against potential currency inflation during the COVID-19 pandemic.[2][4] Co-founders Omar and Aly Hamam cited past personal experiences with currency devaluation in Egypt and corporate moves by MicroStrategy as primary influences for the treasury adoption.[2][3]
The company instituted a monthly dollar-cost averaging strategy, sweeping excess operational profits into Bitcoin while maintaining three to six months of working capital in cash.[2][3] The company also introduced Bitcoin ATMs at select restaurant franchise locations.[2][3]
Media coverage
[edit]The company's non-traditional balance sheet strategy and international franchise growth have been featured in corporate broadcast coverage on BNN Bloomberg as well as dedicated business reporting by Markets Insider and CBC News.[1][2][4]

Comment: Every single source is an interview, which don't count as independent sources. Also, please stop deleting old decline notices. 🍅 fx (talk) 21:09, 6 September 2026 (UTC)
Comment: Two of the four sources are coming up 404 errors - one “for legal reasons”, which…. I cannot see how an article removed for legal reasons can be considered reliable. Also, you seem to have deleted the last several declines from other editors, please do not do that - it lets editors see at a glance how the article has progressed through the AfC process. The article DOES look better pared back as it is, but you need to find some more reliable sources before we try this again. Good luck 👍 Absurdum4242 (talk) 16:09, 28 August 2026 (UTC)
