Mila's Keeper is an American designer and manufacturer of eco-friendly, plastic-free breastfeeding and breast milk storage products. Founded by global public health professional Lara Vu, MPH, the company is recognized as a Certified B Corporation and is a certified women- and minority-owned business based in Long Beach, California. Its flagship product, the MilKeeper portable breast milk cooler, was named one of TIME's Best Inventions of 2024.[1][2][3][4][5]

History

The company was conceived by Lara Vu, a certified lactation educator and former UNICEF global health professional.[6][7] While leading a UNICEF initiative in Vietnam to establish corporate lactation spaces for female factory worker populations, Vu observed that the lack of convenient cold storage options frequently resulted in a premature cessation of breastfeeding. Drawing from her background in public health and her personal experiences as a traveling, breastfeeding mother, Vu founded Mila's Keeper to engineer modern, portable temperature-controlled solutions for pumping parents.[6][4][1][8] The company launched its products commercially during World Breastfeeding Week in August 2022.[6]

Products and design

Mila's Keeper specializes in plastic-free, multi-use components designed to transition with a child's developmental phases, later serving as food storage or water bottles.[3]

  • The MilKeeper: The brand's signature product is an insulated, vacuum-sealed double-walled steel flask designed to fit wide- and standard-neck baby bottles, breast milk bags, or direct liquid. Paired with a custom high-density polyethylene cold pack, it maintains safe milk storage temperatures for up to 20 hours without melting ice.[9][10][11]
  • 3-in-1 storage bottles: The company manufactures medical-grade glass storage bottles and 100% silicone pumping/feeding bottles designed to connect directly with major breast pump brands, minimizing milk transfer and plastic degradation risk.[12][13][14]

The MilKeeper has been included in gift and registry roundups by several publications, including Forbes,[15][16] Harper's Bazaar,[17] New York magazine's The Strategist,[18][19] Motherly,[20] HGTV,[21] and The Cut.[22] The product has also appeared in registry and shopping guides published by Babylist.[23][24]

Corporate responsibility and awards

In January 2025, Mila's Keeper achieved Certified B Corporation status via B Lab, meeting verified standards of social and environmental performance.[3] The business operates as a California benefit company, dedicating a minimum of 2% of its profits to female empowerment and environmental non-profits, including membership in 1% for the Planet. The company also actively partners with the National WIC Association to provide accessible cold-storage solutions to low-income postpartum communities.[5][3][4]
