The 2026 International Dance League season was an international competitive dance league and the inaugural season for the International Dance League (IDL).[1] The league season took place in 6 series with 5 different locations: New York City, Vancouver, Sydney, Seoul, and two in Los Angeles (one normal series & the championship).[1] GRV was crowned as the "IDL Champion" by the end with Brotherhood taking the "IDL Season Standings Title" after a perfect & undefeated normal season.[2][3][4]
The league featured the main "Pro Division" which featured the set 6 professional teams[5] and a "Community Division" which featured teams worldwide. The teams that compete in the "Community Division" changes each series to teams that are located near the series location.[6]
Teams
[edit]For the inaugural season, the six founding teams participated: Brotherhood (Vancouver), GRV (Los Angeles), 1Million (Seoul), Jam Republic (South East Asia), Royal Family (New Zealand), and Quick Style (Oslo).[5] Each team consisted of 20 to 30 dancers in the season roster, while 20 dancers are allowed to participate in each of the series.[7]

Format
[edit]The season took place in 5 different cities for 6 different series: New York City on May 2nd, Vancouver on May 23rd, Sydney on June 20th, Seoul on August 1st, and two in Los Angeles (one normal series on September 19th & one championship on September 20th).[1] Originally, Hong Kong was part of the list of cities with Los Angeles only containing the Championship. But due to partnering issues in the city, the series was cancelled.[20] Each series would have two divisions, starting with the Community Division before moving onto the main Pro Division.
Pro Division
[edit]For the pro division this season, each team put forward a roster with a minimum of 20 dancers and a maximum of 30 dancers. Each team can change the roster during the season, adding or removing dancers, but they cannot go above 30. Before a series, each team would put forward a lineup of 20 dancers for that series. Each series would have a lineup and teams can change their lineup or keep it the exact same for multiple series. The Los Angeles series & Championship though, will have the exact same lineup for both. If a team performs on the day of the series without a full 20-dancer lineup (they can switch the lineup in between lineup announcement & the day of the series) their score will be deducted, unless it's unavoidable (e.g. Visa issues).
In the first round, all six teams are matched up into predetermined pairs where they perform one routine for the judges and the fan vote to enter into Round 2. A coin toss is used to determine the team that goes first.[21] The total points that can be scored is 7 points, six judges and one fan vote. Which ever pro team wins their round advances to the second round with the losing pro team being 'knocked-out' of the series. The points that judges award, are added to their overall season standings no matter if they lost or won. Every team will face every other team in the season.[22]
In Round 2, the winning three teams then perform an entire new routine in a three-way battle. Judges scores are averaged out for the groups and an added fan vote point is divided between the three teams based on the fan vote percentage they got. Points are divided on their position, first gets awarded seven points; second gets awarded five points; and third gets awarded three points, which is added to their overall standing for the season. The team with the most standings points at the end (including those gained during the Championship series) gets the "IDL Season Standings Title" and the cash prize is divided based on your standing. First place gets $200,000, second gets $180,000, third gets $170,000, fourth gets $160,000, fifth gets $150,000, and sixth gets $140,000.[21][22]
The Championship series is formatted like the other series. But, the round 1 matchups are determined by the seedings in the standings as is after the last normal series (Los Angeles). First seed faces sixth, second faces fifth, and third faces fourth. The higher seed then determines which team goes first. The winner of Round 2 is crowned as the "IDL Champion" of the season, there's no second nor third. Points are awarded accordingly to the season standings for the final rankings.[22]
At the most, teams would need to make 12 sets in the span of 6 months (including the pre-season from February/March). Each team had to prepare 2 sets, one for each round, in the time that's given in between series: pre-season for New York, 3 weeks for Vancouver, 4 weeks for Sydney, 6 weeks for Seoul, and 7 weeks for Los Angeles & Championship (4 sets). If a team didn't qualify into Round 2, they can reuse their set for a future series, giving an advantage towards the losing teams to prepare their set for a longer time and having to prepare only 1 new set for the next series.
Each team are scored on a scoresheet by six different judges. The six judges are part of a rotating panel who are trained to be as objective as possible by the two head judges, Dr. Arnel Calvario and Nicolas Bégin.[23] The scoresheet is divided into two sections and ten criteria, which are:[23]
- Design: Complexity of Choreography, Staging, Musicality, Creativity, and Stylistic Athleticism.
- Execution: Cleanliness, Technical Execution + Authenticity, Spacing, Projection/Communication, and Stamina.
Each judge score each criteria on a 1-10 scale. From Seoul onwards, judges were given the possibility to give 0.5 scores. Each judges criteria list is then summed up and their vote goes to the higher score. For individual criteria score, the judges scores are averaged, same goes for the overall score for each team.
Community Division
[edit]The Community Division format for this season was open to teams from the surrounding location where the series were. The division was divided into an adult division (18+) and a junior division (17 and under). Each series had their own Community Division, with New York and Vancouver only having an adult division and Sydney onwards having the junior division as well. From the application, IDL would then select the teams to compete in the competition. Each series was limited to 10 adult teams and 10 junior teams (although the Championship series had 11 adult teams).[6]
Each series had a corresponding region that could apply, those are:[6]
- New York: Eastern + Central United States.
- Vancouver: Canada, Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Central Asia.
- Sydney: South Asia, Maritime South East Asia (excluding Philippines), Oceania, and the Pacific Islands.
- Seoul: East Asia, Mainland Southeast Asia, and the Philippines
- Los Angeles & Championship: Western United States, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
The Community Division judges would differ from the Pro Division judges, and the scoring would be similar to how Round 2 of the Pro Division is scored. Every team would perform one set and would be scored with the same scoresheet as the Pro Division.[23]
Series 1: New York
[edit]The league season took off in New York City on May 2nd at Hammerstein Ballroom.[24][25][21] The event was sold out and had 383,000+ livestream views.[26] In the Pro Division, Brotherhood took first place, with Quick Style taking runner-up and Royal Family at third-place.[26] In the Community Division, Narratiiv took first place, followed by The Squad and Day one taking second and third place, respectively.[25] Saweetie performed the halftime show for the series.[27] It was hosted by JustMaiko and Megan Batoon.
Pro Division
[edit]The judges for New York's Pro Division were: Amari Marshall, Arturo Lyons, Chonqiue Sneed, Jamal Sims, and LaTasha Barnes. Dr. Arnel Calvario and Nicolas Bégin were the head judges with Calvario serving as one of the six judges and Bégin serving as the "deduction judge".[28]
Round 1
[edit]Round 1 of New York's Pro Division consisted of 3 matchups: GRV vs. Quick Style, Brotherhood vs. 1Million, and Royal Family vs. Jam Republic.[25][29]
Match 1: GRV vs. Quick Style
[edit]The first Round 1 matchup for New York was originally Royal Family vs. Jam Republic, but because of Jam Republic's visa issues, they were moved to the last matchup. The first matchup then became GRV vs. Quick Style, which was a "revenge match" for Quick Style after losing to GRV at the 2025 Launch Event.

Brotherhood went first after the coin toss and performed their set to the song "Jealous Type" by Doja Cat. After them, 1Million performed their set to the song "How It's Done" from the K-Pop Demon Hunters movie. The match was won by Brotherhood, sweeping 1Million with a 7-0, and scores of 94.50 and 87.33. Brotherhood's Round 1 set is the highest scoring set in New York Round 1, the only set to score above 90. Brotherhood's set was notablen as well for it's many callbacks to 1Million's Launch Event performances, commonly known as "disses" in the dance and IDL community.[32][29]

Match 3: Royal Family vs. Jam Republic
[edit]The final Round 1 matchup for New York was Royal Family vs. Jam Republic. The matchup, originally the first of the series, was moved to the last as Jam Republic members: Lu Nguyen, Song Linh Nguyen, and captain Aennon Tabungar had visa issues and couldn't attend. Because of this, member Carlo Darang & Kiana Tangonan were subbed in and Jam Republic were given more time to prepare. This also meant that Jam Republic had only 19 dancers on stage, rather than the required 20.[35]

Brotherhood went first after the coin toss and performed their set to a mix of "Get Back" by Ludacris and "Outta Your Mind" by Lil Jon ft. LMFAO. After them, GRV went and performed their set to a mix of "Jealous Type" & "Demons" by Doja Cat. The match was won by Brotherhood, sweeping 7-0 against GRV. But, the scores weren't distant, only a difference of 3.00 with scores of 93.17 and 90.17.[49][46]
The match was notable for it's many "disses" and "references" by both teams. Brotherhood references GRV's set from Body Rock 2010 to the "Get Back" and captain Scott Forsyth noted that "it inspired him to dance."[55] And GRV references multiple sets from Brotherhood, including the "aura-farming" boat (Pacu Jalur) from their Launch Event Round 1 set, the Doja Cat song choice, and the immediate rebuttal by captain Kenneth Espiritu to a reference Brotherhood made in their set.[50]
Even though GRV lost, they still scored the second-highest score in Round 1. They were also the first team, other than Brotherhood, to score above 90. Both sets were the only three sets, with Brotherhood's Round 2 set, to score above 90.[49]

Jam Republic went first after the coin toss and performed their set to "One Time Comin'" by YG. After them, GRV went and performed their set to the same song as Jam Republic, the only time a same-song matchup happened in the season. The match was won by GRV, sweeping Jam Republic 7-0, and scores of 88.83 and 81.00.[67][64]
Both teams were given the chance to switch their Round 1 & 2 set to not have to face each other with the same song. But, both teams kept the "One Time Comin'" set as their Round 1.[64] It was noted as a blunder by Jam Republic, as GRV's set was scored better. The same song matchup made both sets easier to compare and could've been detrimental to Jam Republic's score, especially with GRV's mix being noted as more interesting.[68]

Quick Style went first after the coin toss and performed their set to "Takedown" from the K-Pop Demon Hunters movie. After them, 1Million performed their set to "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga. 1Million won the matchup, sweeping Quick Style 7-0, and scores of 85.99 and 81.99.[67][64]
This was the first matchup, not with Brotherhood, that included "disses" or references to the other tram. Quick Style's song choice was noted as dissing 1Million, especially their similar K-Pop Demon Hunters song choice in New York. 1Million also made a diss to Quick Style where Lia Kim's section was a nod to Quick Style old "Strawhatz" videos which kickstarted Quick Style as a whole.[68]

Match 3: Brotherhood vs. Royal Ramily

Royal Family went first after the coin toss and performed their set to a mix of "Stupid Hoe" by Nicki Minaj, "Gyal Like Me" by Parris Goebel, and the original song '"Crown Heavy". After them, Brotherhood went and performed their set to "Toxic" by Britney Spears. Broterhood won the matchup, sweeping Royal Family 7-0, and scores of 92.17 and 88.17.[67][64]
Brotherhood's set, including their Round 2 set, was stated to have been made in 2 weeks due to music clearance issues. Both their song choices, "Toxic" and "After Party", was chosen not only as a diss towards both song being used by Royal Family in their Round 2 set at New York, but also as a last ditch effort to select songs that were already cleared previously.[74]

Round 2: GRV vs. 1Million vs. Brotherhood
[edit]Round 2 of the Sydney series consisted of the three winners of Round 1: GRV, 1Million, and Brotherhood. This was the first round 2 entry for GRV. The crews performed in order from lowest-scored Round 1 performance to the highest-score. 1Million went first and performed their set to "S**BARU" by Shirorou feat. Kasane Teto & Hatsune Miku. GRV went second and performed their set to a mix of "Unlock the Swag" and "No Flex Zone" by Rae Sremmurd. Brotherhood went last again and performed their set to the song "After Party" by Don Toliver. Brotherhood secured a three-peat and defended their win. GRV secured the runner-up finish, finishing with the closest margin between Brotherhood in the season so far and beating Brotherhood in multiple criteria, scores being 90.77 and 93.17 respectively. 1Million secured another third-place finish with a score of 89.37.[67][64]

Series 4: Seoul
[edit]The fourth series of the season took place in Seoul, 1Million's home turf, on August 1st at the Kyung Hee University Grand Peace Palace.[1][80] The event wasn't sold out, but still livestreamed globally. In the Pro Division, Brotherhood kept their win-streak, securing another first place. 1Million secured their first second-place finish with Royal Family getting their first third-place finish since New York. The Community Division for the adult division was won by The Stories, followed by UPeepz and Bawz in second and third, respectively. The junior division was won by VPeepz, with FMC in second and Chibi Unity Jr. in third.[80]
Pro Division
[edit]The judges for Seoul's Pro Division were: Kim Hae-ni, Amari Marshall, Cheyenne Kibblewhite, Comfort Fedoke, and Gina Michael. Dr. Arnel Calvario and Nicolas Bégin were once again the head judges for the series with Bégin as the judging head judge and Calvario as the "deduction judge".[81] This was the first series where the judges can give .5 points on the scoresheet as well.
Round 1
[edit]Round 1 of Seoul's Pro Division consisted of 3 matchups: GRV vs. Royal Family, Brotherhood vs. Quick Style, and Jam Republic vs. 1Million.[80][82]
Match 1: GRV vs. Royal Family
[edit]The first Round 1 matchup for Seoul was GRV vs. Royal Family. GRV ended up performing with only 19 dancers on stage, because member River Novin had visa issues and couldn't make it. This was the first time a team, outside of Jam Republic, that had visa issues for a series location.[83]

GRV went first after the coin toss and performed their set to a mix of "F*ck Up Some Commas" by Future and "Bugatti" by Ace Hood. After them, Royal Family went and performed their set to a mix of "Family Ties" by Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar, "Up!" by Bianca Oblivion, and "Demons" by Doja Cat. The matchup was won by Royal Family, sweeping GRV 7-0, and scores of 87.83 and 84.08.[86][82]
Royal Family's win was an upset win. Royal Family being a team that was going down after their New York third-place placement and GRV's recent runner-up finish in Sydney caused Royal Family's win to be unexpected. Many people contributed their loss to lack of stamina & member River Novin's absence effects towards the team's overall morale.[83]
Both teams had references and "disses" towards each other. GRV dissed Royal Family's Isla Potini section in their Sydney Round 1 set, led by member Arron Oscala. Royal Family's entire "Demons" section was a diss towards GRV's own "Demons" set against Brotherhood back in Vancouver, specifically referencing Kenneth Espiritu's section.[87][82][83]

Brotherhood went first and performed their set to "Family Ties" by Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar. After them, Quick Style went and performed their set to "Pasta" by Karpe. The matchup was won by Brotherhood, keeping their perfect season by sweeping Quick Style 7-0, and scores of 87.83 and 84.83. This was notably the first time Brotherhood had scored below a 90.00 for a set, and the first time they weren't the highest-scoring team in Round 1.[86][82]
Both teams had music clearance problems. Brotherhood's Round 2 set was originally for Round 1, facing Quick Style with "Takedown as they used the song in Sydney when facing 1Million. But, their original Round 2 set was uncleared 5 days before the series. Brotherhood decided to make a new set in 5 days to "Family Ties", an already cleared song by Royal Family, and switched "Takedown" to be their Round 2 set.[90][91] Many fans have speculated that their "Gangnam Style" set they performed for Championship Round 1 was the set that didn't get cleared.[citation needed] Quick Style's original Round 1 set was also uncleared a week before the series. The team had to create a new set from scratch as well.[92]
Quick Style had multiple "disses" and references towards Brotherhood, referencing many of their IDL sets from previous series, including: Humuza Bazira's litefeet section from New York Round 2, Eldon Linsangan's crowd surfing moment and TikTok dance trend from Vancouver Round 2, and Eldon Linsangan's popping section, Dayton Paradis' vogue section, and Jon Ray Dy Buco's section from Sydney Round 1. They also took Royal Family's teasing face "disses" from their Sydney Round 1 set when they faced Brotherhood.[87] Brotherhood's set was the first time they didn't have any "disses", but their Round 2 was supposed to be the dissing set until the problems with the music clearance arose.[90]

Jam Republic went first and performed their set to a mix of "Promise" by Ciara and "Distraction" by Kehlani. After them, Brotherhood went and performed their set to "Bebot" by the Black Eyed Peas. The matchup was won by Brotherhood, sweeping Jam Republic 7-0, with scores of 92.25 and 88.08.[106][103]
Jam Republic had multiple references & "disses" towards Brotherhood, including: Michael Delleva's band section in Vancouver Round 2, Alo Galedo's stress band section in and Eldon Linsangan's heart formation (which was a 1Million diss as well) in New York Round 1, and Humuza Bazira's intro in Sydney Round 1.[103] Jam Republic also used the audio of a TikTok from user @_erickonda_ where he jokingly called Brotherhood members "down-low", a slang for being in the closet, for how good their sets were.[110]
Brotherhood's song choice was also noted for being a "diss" towards Jam Republic. "Bebot" being a song entirely in Filipino referencing both how Jam Republic represents South East Asia and Brotherhood having mostly Filipino dancers, including captain Adrian Vendiola.

Championship: Los Angeles
[edit]The Championship of the 2026 IDL season took place in Los Angeles, GRV's home turf, on September 20th at the Shrine Expo Hall, the day after the Los Angeles series. The Championship closed the "Championship Weekend" and the 2026 season as a whole.[1][118] The event was sold out and livestreamed globally. In the Pro Division, GRV pulled off an upset win and won the "IDL Champion" title and trophy, beating Brotherhood by a less than .5 score difference. Round 2 consisted of Brotherhood and Jam Republic as well. There was no official 2nd place or 3rd place, although points were scored for the final season standings. Brotherhood though, secured first on the final season standings, winning the $200,000 cash prize.[2][118] The Community Division's adult division which took place in the Championship was won by Choreo Cookies, with V Mo and Team Athena securing second and third, respectively.[118]
Pro Division
[edit]There was one extra judge for the Championship Pro Division, totalling 7 judge. This was an agreement by all the crews to lessen the possibility of one of the points being a popularity contest and more credible by being a professional judge's score. The judges for the Pro Division were: LaTasha Barnes, Shaun Evaristo, Cheyenne Kibblewhite, Handy Yacinthe, Comfort Fedoke, and Brandi Chun. Dr. Arnel Calvario and Stephen Grey were the head judges again, now with Grey as the judging head judge and Calvario as the "deduction judge".[119]
Round 1
[edit]Round 1 of the Championship's Pro Division consisted of the seeding results of the previous series, being: Brotherhood vs. Quick Style, Royal Family vs. Jam Republic, and 1Million vs. GRV.[118][120] The Championship Round 1 was also known to not contain many references & "disses", as the team could've had faced any other team after the LA series points were added up.
Match 1: Brotherhood vs. Quick Style
[edit]The first Round 1 matchup for the Championship was (Seed 1) Brotherhood vs. (Seed 6) Quick Style. This was a rematch between the two teams from the Seoul series.

Brotherhood chose to go second, so Quick Style went first and performed their set to "Jealous Type" by Doja Cat. After them, Brotherhood went and performed their set to "Gangnam Style" by Psy. The matchup was won by Brotherhood, sweeping Quick Style 7-0 and scores of 91.91 & 82.99, finishing Quick Style run in the season.[121]
Quick Style's usage of "Jealous Type" was a reference to Brotherhood's New York Round 1 set and, notably, they were the only team to have a Round 1 set with specific disses towards a team.[120] Brotherhood's "Gangnam Style" set was also rumoured by fans to be their Seoul Round 2 set and was the set that was uncleared five days before the series.

But, a runner-up finish at the Championship after an upset win by GRV blocked them from a perfect 2026 season.

1Million's 2026 season
[edit]Seoul's 1Million were another crew who had a steady rise in score throughout the season and turned to be one of the favourites in the season and not losing a Round 1 matchup since New York, taking the second seed for most of the season before falling into the third seed entering the Championship. Losing to an upset by GRV at the Championship made them fall even further into a fourth-place finish with 32 points.

Jam Republic's 2026 season
[edit]South East Asia's Jam Republic were one of the crews who were one of the strongest in the beginning of the season although they were faced with multiple visa issues, only to slowly fall in terms of their performance. But, they did slowly make a rise back from Seoul onwards. Although they entered the Championship as the fifth seed, they pulled an upset against Royal Family and had the third-best score in the Final. They finished fifth-place with 24 points.

Quick Style's 2026 season
[edit]Oslo's Quick Style were a crew who had an explosive start to the season in New York. Beating GRV and securing that runner-up finish showed that they were a force to be reckoned with. But, slowly and progressively the crew lost steam through the season. With not a single Round 2 qualification since their first in New York, Quick Style entered the Championship as the sixth seed and lost to Brotherhood, keeping their sixth-place with 9 points.
