Common Man is a 2026 Indian Kannada-language political drama film directed by Om Sai Prakash and produced by N. Narasimha Murthy under the banner of Surabhi Films.[1]

The film stars Gowrishankar SRG, Shona Ladva, Sabby Suri, N. Narasimha Murthy, Ashok and Ramesh Bhat.[2]

Plot

Kumar Kamsale is an advocate who takes legal action against a doctor over a dispute involving the doctor's pet. After watching a television discussion featuring legislators from the ruling and opposition parties, he demands his right to enter Vidhana Soudha.

The film was directed by Om Sai Prakash, with N. Narasimha Murthy and Om Sai Prakash credited with the story.[3] Om Sai Prakash wrote the screenplay. The cinematography was handled by J. G. Krishna and Deepak Kumar J. K., while M. Muniraju edited the film.[4] The film marked Prakash's 106th directorial venture and his return to direction after a six-year break.[5]

The film's soundtrack was composed by Vinay Chandra, with lyrics written by V. Nagendra Prasad and Sai Sarvesh. The soundtrack features four songs sung by Kailash Kher, Baba Sehgal, Javed Ali, Shruthi Prahlad, Chaithra J. Achar and Vinay Chandra. The songs were released in September 2026 ahead of the film's theatrical release.[6][7]

"Betona Betona" was released in September 2026 and features vocals by Baba Sehgal and Ankita Kundu.[8] "Nan Hesaru Saniya" was released on 20 September 2026, featuring Chaithra J. Achar and Vinay Chandra.[9] "Khakhi Khadi", sung by Kailash Kher, was released on 23 September 2026. Its lyrics were written by V. Nagendra Prasad, and the song was composed by Vinay Chandra.[10]

Reception

ET Now rated the film 4 out of 5, praising the performances, music, cinematography and editing.[12] TV9 Kannada and Asianet Suvarna News both rated it 3 out of 5, appreciating its political satire and Gowrishankar's performance while criticising its conventional storytelling.[13][14] The Times of India rated the film 2 out of 5, praising its premise and lead performance while criticising its inconsistent tone and screenplay.[15]

Cinema Express and The New Indian Express praised the political storyline and Gowrishankar's performance, while noting the reliance on explanatory dialogue and subplots.[16][17] Vijayavani praised the premise and lead performance but felt the screenplay and execution could be improved.[18] Bangalore Mirror criticised the direction and screenplay but praised Gowrishankar's performance, music and cinematography.[19] KannadaScreens noted similarities to the Tamil film Mudhalvan, while criticising the screenplay's lack of freshness.[20] CiniMirror criticised the fragmented narration but praised Gowrishankar's performance and the music.[21]
