Scope
[edit]This cat has come under fire recently and I can kind of see both sides of it. I think part of the problem was that folks saw most of the additions were by an anon ip user which usually brings to mind thoughts of a vandal, but in this case that doesnt appear to be the situation.
However, with that said, what is this category attempting to do? Are we adding it to every single person on Wikipedia that is in any way of Scottish ancestry? I guess that would be okay by Wiki standards (as in there is no rule against it) but I wonder if tis a good idea. Also, as we have seen, putting this category on well known people, such as George Washington and Robert E. Lee will draw constant reverts from a lot of people. I'm not against the cat, I'm just saying it appears to be causing problems. -Husnock 21:52, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
The listing of actress Mary McDonnell as Scottish American is false. She is an Irish American, the daughter of John McDonnell and Eileen Mundy McDonnell. Both Irish American Catholics. Kirk Douglas was born under a different name, he took the name "Kirk Douglas" to anglicize himself. He's of Eastern European Jewish descent. Not a Scot or of Scots descent.
Elvis?
